I like to think that the Civvy and I make a good car/driver team, but a part of me just despairs in it ever transforming and coming to my defense were I in any more trouble than it always pulling through when it starts to roll back on hill stops, unlike Bumblebee. For one, the idea of me screaming “Mistahhhh Jaaaaaayyy!” isn’t quite as endearing as “BUMBLEBEEEEEEEEE!” and secondly, seeing as it only contains one arm rest, 2 cupholders, and a stick-shift, I would really doubt its transforming capabilities into something so bad ass. Now, a Porsche or a SL65 AMG Black Series, mind you, is a completely different story… Welcome to what I’ve done with my evening. XOXO

…All I want to do is keep working on the Civvy and perfect it for this weekend as soon as possible. It’s turned into a full-on obsession. I am DEAD-SET on proving that a small enough person can have a totally enjoyable, realistic car-camping experience in a compact car with enough ingenuity, self-sufficiency, and raw determination. It may not be one of the more traditional hippie campers showing up to Solarfest, but it WILL be one of the raddest.

……I have also recognized the fact that I’m going to need to do a test-sleep night Wednesday or Thursday to iron out any issues that crop up comfort/screen/living-wise before I head out on Friday. Because that would be both clever and smart.

Summer Camping Cars Civvy Solarfest Obsession DIY

Slept in the Civvy last night to test out the vanagon transformation. Screens work great. Bed is ridiculously cushy. Red lighting is fancy. Art postcards on the ceiling make it feel like the Civstine Chapel. Curtains are groovy and fit windows. Hotboxed the whole thing while listening to Edward Sharpe, Steve Miller Band, and Led Zep to celebrate. This is the good life.

Off I go to Solarfest! Won’t be around for 3 days; miss me!

Life Summer Camping Solarfest ILoVermont Cars Civvy Awesome DIY She's Crafty Smoking

The tiniest vanagon rides again! Set the Civvy up to spend the night in it again tonight, and leaving it all kitted up so that I can take it up to Burlington like that for the 10 days I’ll be there. In case Lisa and I decide we want to do a day-long hike and overnight in it at the ending point. So, I don’t have a mini-fridge in it— just a cooler. I don’t have a working sink or stove-top burners, either. I can’t stand up in it…but it hotboxes like a CHAMP, fits me perfectly and is comfy to sleep in, and is my favorite place to turn on the lantern, blast some Zeppelin, light some incense, and stare at the artwork on the ceiling. (Fun fact: In museum gift shops, I buy the postcards of the famous or favorite pieces of art I saw there. I tacked those postcards to the Civic’s ceiling all throughout the interior, and the affect it created is affectionately known as the “Civstine Chapel.”) I PROMISE this time I’ll take photos and post them so you guys can see! XOXO
